Part Boarding Information
How to Start
Part boarding is when a student spends extra time with their assigned horse. Part boarders take lessons but also get practice ride days where they can come to the farm when they like and practice the skills they are learning with their assigned horse.
The horse is the same for the term of part boarding (unless a horse injury/illness in which case the student can practice with a different horse).
There are many benefits to part boarding including...
- You get a taste for what it is like to own your horse
- You are not responsible for vet, farrier, or any extra bills that may arise
- You still get to have the horse all to yourself for certain days of the week and plan your own schedule for riding/playing
- You get to advance your skills with extra practice
- It can help you to decide what type of horse you would want to buy You learn a lot of the ‘behind the scenes' work that goes on with horses Prepares you for one day owning or fully leasing a horse
- Provides you with independence, but at the same time a support structure to help you if things come off track
- Allows you to ride/work with a horse that might otherwise be out of your budget
- Is excellent for developing responsibility in kids/teens
- Gives you the opportunity to really get to know a horse and develop a relationship
- Is great for helping to instill confidence and consistency in your play with horses
LFEquestrian encourages part boarding because it helps to build skills in students, but also because of the additional bond in creates between horse and rider. Part boarding opportunities are offered to students that are ready and capable to practice with horses without LFEquestrian staff supervision.
Practice & Lesson Package Options with LFEquestrian Horses:
1) Free Lease & Discount Lesson Option: You choose a horse and you choose the farm (subject to LFEquestrian approval). You get the horse for free on lease (suggested 6 month lease term). The horse is 'yours' for the lease and you can ride/play with the horse as much as you want, when you want. The lessee is responsible to pay board for the horse and any maintenance care (trims from the farrier, de-worming, etc). You also get 1 free lesson per month with the horse, and additional lessons are discounted at $50/hr for private lessons, or $30/hr for group/semi private lessons which can be arranged based on what you need/want.
2) Lesson & Practice Packages: You choose a horse, and the horse will be boarded at Chestnut Hill Stables (unless otherwise approved). Payment for the package is due the 1st of each month, and a commitment for a minimum of 3 months is required. Practice ride days are a day of the week that is 'yours' with the horse when you can come to the farm when you want to practice the skills you want.

Part Boarding Information
There no additional costs for showing/ lessons at a show- the only fees you pay are trailering and entries (the lesson at the show counts as one of your lessons for the month).
- Included lessons in a package occur on one of the rider’s practice ride days (for example if your practice ride days are Thursday and Saturday, then your lesson would be on a Thursday or Saturday).
- Practice ride days are days in which the horse ‘belongs’ to the part boarders; the part boarder can come to the barn at any time, for any amount of time to ride, groom, etc as they wish with the horse (keeping in mind safety and health precautions for the horse and rider).
- On practice ride days, only practice skills that you have practiced in lessons (e.g. only practice cantering if you canter regularly in your lessons).
- When having practice ride days, please keep in mind it can be hard on the horse’s legs to jump everyday – unless the jumps are very small (max 1ft).
- Practice ride days can include one weekend day, and with exception can include two weekend days if circumstances allow.
- Practice ride days can be exchanged if the part boarder is away/ill as long as circumstances allow- this will be determined based on each situation. If you know you will be away please notify LFEquestrian as soon as possible so alternate arrangements can be made.
- Practice ride days may have to be altered if there is a horse show/weekend event, which is to be determined prior to each show that the horse is competing in.
- Trail riding is great to do with the horse, but please make sure you go with a buddy on a trail (either a person riding with you, or walking), also take a cell phone with you and inform someone on the property when you are leaving and approximately when to expect you back. Always ride on the shoulder of a road/ditch when applicable. Only go on a trail ride if you have ridden successfully on a trail with a staff of LFEquestrian.
- Always where a helmet when riding, even if you are older than 18.
- OEF memberships (Ontario Equestrian Federation) are required
- Please remember to wipe down the tack with the cloth & conditioner after every ride.
- If you wish to discontinue part boarding, we request 30 days notice.
- Part board payment is due at the 1st of every month.
- If tack, blankets, etc are broken/ missing please notify Lindsey right away
- If the horse appears injured or ill in any way please notify Lindsey and barn staff right away. (Lindsey’s cell: 416-571-5914, from 8:30am-4:30pm weekdays call work #: 906-668-4113 x 3216 )
