What’s Interesting: Vinnie is such an easy going guy – his first trail ride ever was a trailer trip to Walmart (in Uxbridge). He loaded up so easily, walked off calmly, had a great ride, and then finished by going through Tim Hortons so calmly – Vinnie is a cool as a cucumber!
What He Likes: Vinnie loves to eat just about anything. His trips to Tim Hortons are a favourite because he loves the Honey Dip timbits. At camp he loved eating the left over melon… and if you’re not careful he’ll try to share your sandwich too.
Talents: Vinnie is a pro at trail riding and he has excellent ‘brakes’ – when you say “whoa” you better be ready to stop!
What Lindsey Says: “I love training horses like Vinnie – they are so easy and enjoyable. Vinnie has never done anything ‘scary’; it’s just so nice when a horse’s natural reaction to fear or nervousness is to stop and look around. Vinnie give’s Balius a run for the title of ‘quietest horse’.”
Information: Vinnie was purchased at 6 months old by a family in Uxbridge. He lived most of his life there being a pet. He was loved and cared for, but he didn’t receive much training, and mainly just gave kids the odd pony ride.
Lindsey purchased him in the summer of 2011. She didn’t have much time to work with him over the summer, so his training primarily started in October when he moved to Chestnut Hill Stables for the winter.
Once at Chestnut Hill Stables, Vinnie started in regular weekly training. He proved himself to be a very easy and trainable horse. Within a couple weeks he was doing walk, trot, and canter along the rail of the indoor arena – arena work was something he had never done before. Vinnie was previously only used to paths, driveways, trails, and backyards.
Vinnie progressed really quickly with training and in November he travelled offsite for trail riding and riding in Christmas parades. On November 26th, 2011 he rode in the Uxbridge Christmas Parade, and then rode to Tim Hortons for some afternoon snacks before getting picked up and going home.
Vinnie also started riding English – something he’d never done before – and he also started some jumping. Currently he is used in lessons with novice to intermediate riders for flat and jumping. He is continuing to practice his skills over low jumps, and he shows talent to jump higher.
This is the type of horse you can have a safe and steady trail, or have fun with in the arena. He is a nice combination of a horse that will easily go, and will also easily “whoa.” He is flashy too, so he might show up in the show ring in 2012!
